  • 1.  Installing Fix Pack 1

    Posted 08/17/20 09:43 AM

    Hi all.

I'm using Mac OS Catalina. When I realised I couldn't operate SPSS 26 correctly without the Fix Pack 1, I downloaded it from IBM.

After going through many complicated steps of installing the fix pack 1, I'm getting stuck at this point:

Need to execute the installer as the 'root' user, use the following command:

    ./SPSS_Statistics_Installer_Silent.bin -f installer.properties

I've tried to figure out how to do this, but it is beyond me. I believe it's the last step in installing the fix pack 1.

Can anyone help or advise? I'll post a link to the fix pack 1 installation instructions for reference.

    Thanks so much in advance,

    Cassandra C

    Hi Jorge,

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes I tried this too, however when I get to step 7 there is no option to Edit- enable root user. Do you know where I can find this option?

    Thanks,

    Cassandra

    Hi Support Member

There should be no need to enable the root user. If you are already an adminstrator on this mac, you will have the ability to elevate your privileges on a command by command basis using the 'sudo' command prefix.

    e.g. "sudo ./SPSS_Statistics_Installer_Silent.bin -f installer.properties"

The first time you do this in the Terminal.app you will be prompted for a password. This is your regular mac login password.

Next question? Why are you using the Silent installer? This is usually reserved for network admins doing multiple unattended installs on multiple machines at once. Are you able to download the IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 for macOS media again? After Statistics 26.0, Fixpack 1 was finalized the installer for Statistics 26.0 GA was redone. It now includes Fixpack 1.

You should now be able to download IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 (macOS) and install it. When you are finished, if you go to "SPSS Statistics -> About SPSS Statistics" you should see your installed product is "Release 26.0.0.1".

    I hope this helps!
