Installing 14.10.FC3

    Hi,

    Has anyone had any issues installing the 64-bit Linux version of 14.10.FC3?

    I've downloaded the archive ibm.ids.14.10.FC3.LNX.tar and when I try to install I get the following:-

    Hi Greg,

    what exactly is "ibm.ids.14.10.FC3.LNX.tar"?
    ​
    Before suspecting "JRE libraries are missing"  I'd first clarify "compatible".

    In other words:
    • on what HW architecture (below your Linux) are you trying this? x86_64, Power, z ?
    • is the installable you're trying the right one for this architecture?

    Hi Andreas,

    This is the x86_64 version I have downloaded from IBM and I can confirm this should be compatible with the Linux RedHat 7 system I am installing this on.

    For the record, I have installed the x86_64 version of 14.10.FC2 on the same server which was downloaded from the same source without any issues.

    I need to do a test install of FC3 as we are upgrading a clients IDS and have the WE java installer for 14.10.FC3 before I attempt this in a live environment.

    Hi Greg,

    well at least I can confirm that 'ibm.ids.14.10.FC3.LNX.tar' is the correct archive.
    I installed it without any problems on RHEL 7.7 64 bit

    I think it is more like this:

    Unzipping of installer.zip failed.

    is the cause as this is the section of the ids_install script that does this:-

    unzip_success=`$UNZIP_CMD -d $INSTALLER_DATA_DIR $INSTALL_ZIP jvmspecs* > /dev/null 2>&1`
    R_unzip=$?

    If I run this manually I get the following:

    [root@odin InstallerData]# /usr/bin/unzip -d /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData/installer.zip jvmspecs*
    Archive: /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData/installer.zip
    End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
    a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
    latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
    the last disk(s) of this archive.
    unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData/installer.zip or
    /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData/installer.zip.zip, and cannot find /tmp/install.dir.31350/InstallerData/installer.zip.ZIP, period.

    Tried this in a test env here, and I indeed can run this unzip without errors.

    Have you tried re-downloading the installer?

    Also: have you tried running that java?
    E.g.: /tmp/install.dir.1327/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java -version

    If I run from the temporary install directory I get:
    ./java -version
    ./java: error while loading shared libraries: libjli.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    If I run the java in my path I get:
    java -version

    And as far as I can see libjli.so did not come unzipping installer.zip.

    So it would appear you've already got two inconsistecies there, one in installer.zip, another one in that jre subdirectory.

    I'd still suggest re-trying all steps, from initial download of 'ibm.ids.14.10.FC3.LNX.tar' via untarring this, finally running resulting ids_install  -  and byte/chksum/ls -l -comparing all intermediate results with what you're having.

    That's probably the reason for the failure. For security reasons process running as root may not want to load shared objects from arbitrary locations.  SELINUX may have specific policy for this too. As a workaround - Informix installer temp directory can be pointed to other location - using IATEMPDIR environment variable. It's possible that setting SELINUX "permissive" mode for the install can allow it to succeed.

    Try with selinux permissive [setenforce 0] and also firewall disabled  [systemctl stop firewalld].
    I have dozen instalations over version 7 and 8 without problems.

    Do you have installed OS java? Which version is running? [rpm -qa | grep java] [java -version]

    Hello there,

    i have also huge issues with the 14.10FC3 installation under RHEL8.1

    first it had to set manually some links in /lib64/tls "libc.so.6 libm.so.6"
    and then the installer needes the "/tmp2" workaround and now it crashed during the step "Service instance"

    1- Yes - create a server instance
    2- No - do not create a server instance

    ENTER THE NUMBER OF THE DESIRED CHOICE: 2

    For Mark and Greg : I have have installed 14.10 FC3 a good number of times on RedHat/Centos 7 and 8

     

    RedHat 7 is straightforward as long as you install the required libraries (kaio, libterm etc) that you will see in the machnote.

    RedHat 8: you will need to do a couple(or 3) of symbolic links on some of those librairies: the principle is that IDS has been compiled on RedHat7, and those libraries are at version <libname>.so.5.1, and by default RedHat 8 has the same lib as <libname>.so.6.1: you 'll do run the following as root:

    ln -s /usr/lib64/<libname>.so.6.1 /usr/lib64/<libname>.so.5

     

    and everything will be ok

     

    the problem at install may be due to the  fact that you have many /tmp/installdir.NNN directories that may fill /tmp file system up to 100%. Try just deleting those directories and run again.
    Else you may have a download issue: I never had it

    I have managed to resolve the issue. The downloaded archive looks to have been the issue (ibm.ids.14.10.FC3.LNX.tar) - I found we had another 14.10.FC3 tar from an earlier download that I managed to successfully install.
