  • 1.  install VIOS from usb flash drive

    Hi all,

    We are going to install VIOS via usb flash drive for an new Power 10 server.  We activate vios, can not see any USB device in the VIOS installation.

    The USB flash drive is accessible from in Power 9.  The drive is incert  the same location in the front in both of Power 9 and 10.

    What do I missing?

    Did you use the method described in this IBM Technote ?   PowerVM VIOS 3.1 Installation Using USB Flash Drive at  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/powervm-vios-31-installation-using-usb-flash-drive.   

    Or you can try installing it from HMC : Installing the Virtual I/O Server manually by using HMC Version 7 Release 7.1, and later at  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power9/9009-42G?topic=installing-hmc-version-7-release-71-later.

    In the profile partition of the VIOS, do you add Universal Serial BUS UHC Spec I/O ?

    I'll never use USB key for VIOS, may be your key is not compatible. Is it USB 3.0 key ? As Satid says, if you have an hmc, HMC installation is another option, but network have to be in placed.

    We did a diagnostic reboot in vios, it finally detected the USB device.
