    Buen día. Recién estoy aprendiendo a programar en Informix 4GL. Logré instalar Informix Developer Edition para el servidor de base de datos, pero no he podido probar código en 4GL porque no encuentro un instalador. Alguien me podría ayudar por favor?. Gracias de antemano

    Yes, you can compile 4GL code with 4Js Genero. Genero is one of three Informix 4GL superset development environments, these are:
     
    4Js Genero - 4js.com
    Querix Lycia - querix.com
    The last, Aubit4GL, is open source. All three support classic 4GL source code and can compile your code to working executables that can connect to Informix. As a bonus, they also can create executables that can connect to other RDBMS.

    Buen día Art Kagel, muchas gracias por la información. Wow todo esto es nuevo para mi. Eso lo puedo implementar en una maquina virtual con Linux Ubuntu 22.04?, la sintaxis o la forma como se escribe el código cambia o es exactamente igual con estas herramientas. De nuevo muchas gracias por el apoyo.

    OK, so, all three are superset languages, which means that while they support classic 4GL 100%, they also added many extensions to the language to handle graphical user interfaces, building mobile apps, and web callable functions. They all include a more advanced report writer (each is different) and their own, optional, screen/form designer features (though .per files are still supported either directly or via conversion to the more modern and capable form/screen manager.

    Si claro. Y Genero te permite usar tecnología de punta dentro de tus proyectos de desarrollo, de una manera sencilla, que es la característica principal de los ambientes de cuarta generación.

    Thank you for your message.

    The IBM Informix Developer Edition you installed includes the database engine only. It does not include an Informix 4GL compiler or development environment.

    To write and test Informix 4GL applications, you need a 4GL development tool. The original IBM Informix 4GL is no longer actively distributed for new installations.

    As an alternative, we recommend using Genero BDL from 4JS, which is fully compatible with Informix 4GL and actively maintained. It allows you to develop, compile, and run 4GL applications against your Informix database.

    You can download a trial version of Genero BDL from the 4JS website and start testing your programs right away.
