Inquiry: Implementing GDPS with Third-Party Storage and Optimal Feature Selection

  • 1.  Inquiry: Implementing GDPS with Third-Party Storage and Optimal Feature Selection

    Posted 10/16/25 04:39 PM

I am planning to implement GDPS with a third-party storage solution, but I'm uncertain about the specific hardware and software features to prioritize for high performance and stable high availability. I am particularly interested in understanding:

    1. Key hardware features (e.g., high-speed FC connections, high-performance storage systems, multipathing) that should be considered for integrating third-party storage with GDPS.

    2. Vital software-level functionalities (e.g., storage multipathing software, data replication software, device management tools) required for optimal performance and reliability when using third-party storage with GDPS.

    3. Whether zHyperlink, zSynergy, and zHyperswap are essential requirements or if their inclusion depends on specific workload and availability needs.

Your insights and experiences regarding GDPS and third-party storage integration would be highly appreciated. Additionally, should I consider Lightning certification or specific vendor support as non-negotiable requirements?

Hi Theo, GDPS is not in the scope of DFSMS.  I recommend that you reach out to Nathan Brice (nbrice@uk.ibm.com), Program Director for GDPS.
