  • 1.  initiate sftp from PA Cloud server via TI process

    Hey everybody-
We went to PA Cloud about 1.5 yrs ago from an on-prem version. It's been great in general, but there's a few things that are a little more difficult. One of them is pushing a flat file to an sftp server from the PA server on the cloud. I have been doing this on my local machine with WinSCP and connecting to both the S drive in PA Cloud and to the external ftp site and transferring the file manually.

With our on-prem version, we installed WinSCP on the TM1 server and kicked off the file transfer with a TI process that called a batch file that opened WinSCP and ftp'd the file.

    "EXECUTECOMMAND(FilePath | FileName | '.bat',0)"

So my question is this....since I can't install an ftp client (like WinSCP) on the PA Cloud server and Windows DOS command prompt doesn't support SFTP (as far as I know), is it no longer possible for a TI process to trigger a SFTP file transfer?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kirk

    Hey Kirk

There is Cognos Command Center that can be used.

Thanks Paul. I've heard of CCC, but don't have any experience with it. I'm guessing it would need to be installed on a server that is always listening for when a TI is run that would trigger the SFTP transfer. It's not a cloud service, correct? We are fully on the cloud service now and I was hoping not to need any locally-managed servers any longer.

Kirk - The Cognos Command Center server service is run on premise.  It requires a SQL Server or Oracle database for it's repository (also run on premise).  Command Center connects to agents that execute the Command Center task.  A task could be running a TI process, or FTPing a file from server A to server B.  Tasks are grouped into processes and logic can be build into these processes (e.g if Task A fails do not run Task B).  The Planning Analytics on IBM Cloud environment includes a Command Center agent already installed on the cloud that you can connect to.

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSPLNP_10.2.4/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ag_ccc.10.2.4.doc/c_ag_ccc_nfs_1024.html

Command Center can either schedule and execute your Ti process as part of a process that also includes FTPing the file.  It also has a trigger mechanism that can run a Command Center process that FTPs the file when the file is created or updated (the CCC process is triggered by the creation of the file).

    Hey Kirk,
I recommend that you check out OneCloud. There platform is much better than CCC. It's cloud native and connects to PA. It would be an additional license but it is well worth it in my opinion.
