  • 1.  ICN edit service - set cleanup of temporary files via parameter

    Posted Thu October 27, 2022 04:34 PM
At ICN admin you can configure the "temporary files cleanup interval" in days between 1 (min) to 20 (max).
We are utilizing Edit Service by custom plugin and want to set the cleanup of the exported\downloaded temporary files directly. Is there a way to call this as a parameter or are there other ways to set the time kept in temp of edit service? Is there a way to clean up below 24h (1 day)?
    Thank You, Alberto

    Hi Alberto,

Can you explain more about the business use case? For Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, Edit client can clean up the temp files automatically after user finish editing them. For this kind of documents, cleanup action is not needed.
Currently, there is no way to change the current behavior now since the cleanup value is only accepted as an Integer value. If we change it from days to hours/minutes, it will introduce much complexity to our application. Do you think your issue can be resolved every time before user editing a document with edit client, it cleans up the temp files first?

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Alberto,

    1. Could you explain more about the business use case? Does customer often edit documents other than Office documents(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF? Because Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files can be deleted automatically after they finish editing them. So they don't need to be cleaned with cleanup action. Currently, the cleanup time is passed from ICN to Edit client as a parameter but the parameter is passed as integer and if we change it from days to hours/minutes will introduce much complexity to our application.
    2. Could you explain what's your expected behavior? Can your issue be resolved if we make Edit client to clean up the temp files every time before they start using Edit service client to edit a document from ICN?

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Jason, hi Mark,

sorry for my late answer. In the meantime we changed our implementation and it works with the ootb cleanup as expected. The business case was based on a security requirement to ensure that no local copies of a defined document class by Edit Service download\check-out will be kept longer than necessary.
Thank You for the feedback provided above!
    regards, Alberto
