  • 1.  IBMIM v1.5.1 silent install using recorded instal.xml

    Posted Tue January 24, 2012 07:28 PM
    Hello,

I used IBMIM v 1.5.1 in record mode to create an install.xlm file which is configured to install the WAS8002 binaries.

If I take a tar of the recorded sub-dir that is created by IBMIM, in this case:

    /opt/IBMIM/recorded/WASND8002:

    drwxr-xr-x 9 wasadm staff 4096 Jan 20 09:38 IM_DATA

    -rw-r--r-- 1 wasadm staff 2529 Jan 24 14:46 install.xml

And move this to a centralized respository, then try to run the -install.sh referencing this recorded install.xml file I get the following:

    ./install.sh /tmp/recorded/WASND8002/install.xml

Install IBM product using /tmp/recorded/WASND8002/install.xml response file.

    Running IBM Installation Manager installer

CRIMA1075E ERROR: Error during "pre-install configure" phase:

CRIMA1075E ERROR: Unable to find custom install operation com.ibm.ws.exec.command.Exec

    CRIMA1075E com.ibm.ws.exec.command.Exec

Perhaps my understanding is wrong, but I was under the impression that these install.xml recorded scripts could be called from anywhere as long as the IM_DATA was available.

If anyone has any insights... :)

    Thank you,

    My understanding of the issue:
You have created the response file using the IM reocrd mode and you are facing the issue while using the response file in the silent installation.

    Suggession:
Please check the below presentation on IBM education assistant... which shows the entire process of creating the response file and installing using CIM in silent mode.

    Marion,

My experience with the v8 install process is on Windows, so I'm not sure how clearly this will translate to a UNIX platform...

You appear to understand the process of creating the install script using the IIM and the -skipInstall insturctions.  Great!

When installing the v8 binaries on another system, I've already installed IIM on the target system and then call the IMCL to perform the installation.

Assuming that you already have the DMGR up and running, you can use the Job Manager to perform the binary installations on defined targets.

Here's a lab with some instructions on installing WASv8 silently: publib.boulder.ibm.com/...iea...v8/.../W...

What I think might help you out the most though is this infocenter link about silent installs of v8 on distrbuted systems:  publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinf...

The key is that you have IIM on the target system...

Let us know if this helps out.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for the replies to my problem, we opened a PMR with IBM, but inthe end figured out that the errors indicated above are generated whenever you /IBMIM/IMShared  filesystem is close to 100% full, in our case it went to 93% on the server we were using to test the silent installs.

This prevented us for installing any packages at all, using any method. Including un-installs.  Word of caution, do not remove any files that are expanded under the /IBMIM/IMShared directory structure. Any furture updates to the packages installed will fail if the fecthed files it requires are no longer under the IMShared directory structure. Even if you try to install again, it will tell you that the pre-fetched files are no longer available and will not try to re-fetch the files from you repository location.
