Hello,

I need help understanding DPM behavior on z16 (LinuxONE) .

DPM was ordered and it seems that the configuration of the machine in IBM Inventory contains the DPM feature.

When we (customer and me) open and log on with SYSPROG user to the HMC on the browser, we do not see the 'New Partition' task as expected.
I read the instructions in IBM Dynamic Partition Manager (DPM) Guide IBM SB10-7182-00 Level 00a.
In this book there is a sample picture which show 'New Partition' when you you click on the DPM-enabled system.

We see this page but without the 'New Partition' line.

I assume we doing something wrong,
please suggest us where to look for what is wrong ?

ordering the DPM feature doesn't mean, that DPM is enabled. Did you switch the CPC into DPM mode?

Our IBM CE does not know how to do this and the customer SYSPROG user id does not show any option to enable the DPM-MODE.

that's the information that I got from DPM people. They had problems responding themselves.

"You should use the 'Enable Dynamic Partition Manager' task on the SE to enable DPM. Please note that any previous logical partitions you have on the system will NOT be carried forward to the DPM mode. And once in DPM mode, you should NOT use the Power on Reset to start the CPC. There are Start and Stop tasks, targeting the system available on the HMC which should be used"

Hi Arye, From what you said, it looks like the DPM mode is not enabled on the system. You should use the "Enable Dynamic Partition Manager" task on the Support Element setup the system in DPM mode. Please note any LPARs that you previously created in the system will not be carried forward to the DPM mode. Also, you should NOT use the Power on Reset tasks on the SE to start the system, but use the Start and Stop task on the HMC that target the system.

The IBM Product Engineering team should be able to help you with the setup.

Thank you all for helping me solve the problem.

I passed your suggestions to our local IBM SSR and he managed to enable the DPM-MODE successfully.
Now we see in the HMC all the necessary panels which enabling us the definitions of New Partition under DPM MODE.
