  • 1.  IBM Sterling Connect: Direct 4.7 to IBM Connect Direct 6.4 Considerations

    Posted Wed March 19, 2025 09:29 AM

    Hi,

    Appreciate recommendations for moving from IBM Sterling Connect: Direct 4.7 on Windows server 2008 to Windows Server 2022 on a domain environment.

    I have extracted the initparam.cfg, netmap.cfg and user.cfg files to be imported to the Connect:Direct 6.4 environment. Also File Agent file as well.

    Appreciate if anyone could further guide me the steps for a smooth upgrade.

    I replied a couple of days ago... until today the system allowed publication :-)

    I hope the information is still useful to you :-)

    Dear Saul Marco,

    Many thanks for sharing the link.

    Appreciate if you could just help me understand the following:

    I have extracted the user,map, initparam files from existing CD 4.7 setup,that I'll import in CD 6.4 during installation.

    Would like to share some concerns , may be if you could help me understand:

    In user.cfg there are credentials user name and password in xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx this form.

    Proxy:JOCP000@SIG.BAS.TCB]

    LocalUserid=XYZ0001

    LocalPassword=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    DownloadDir=D:\UAT\CDServer\FromXYZ

    UploadDir=

    ProcessDir=

    ProgramDir=

    AllowUpload=Y

    AllowDownload=Y

    Is this XYZ0001 user a system user or CD user.

    What if I don't know the users password.

    And at test environment importing this file as is gives errors.

    Also any latest video channel for related activity would help a lot.

    Regards,

    Faisal

    Hi,

    migrating from version 4.7 to 6.4 is a big step forward (5 versions). My recommendation is to review the documentation (i.e. Release Notes) closely upfront and test your new installation thoroughly before going into production.

    > Is this XYZ0001 user a system user or CD user.

    It's both.

    > What if I don't know the users password.

    You have several options:

    • Ask for the user's password and update User.cfg upfront using the CD Configuration Tool.
    • Keep the bad password in User.cfg during the installation and update it later once CD is installed, i.e. before it is being used.
    • Remove the proxy entry from User.cfg.

    You can always create and update proxies later on once CD is installed.
