    Posted 4 days ago

    Hi y'all.

I have a customer who for some reason bought Advanced Workgroup Edition. (He has never used the Warehouse Engine.)
He is still using version 12. Now, IBM insists (as AWE was discontinued when V. 14. was released) that the customer must re-purchase the licenses to upgrade to 14.0 WE. The customer has a valid maintenance agreement.

They sent this (which is in no way definitive).

I find this very strange, what do you think?
    Best regards,
    -Snorri

    Hello Snorri,

Yes AWE is not sold any longer, that is true. However you have the following PNs available today :

E0D70LL IBM Informix Advanced Workgroup Edition CPU Option Processor Value Unit (PVU) Annual SW Subscription & Support Renewal

D0N1JLL IBM Informix Advanced Workgroup  Edition CPU Option Processor Value Unit (PVU) SW Subscription & Support Reinstatement 12 Months

So that means that you can keep on renewing maintenance (access to maintenance releases and support) and also reinstate licences that are not under maintenance because maintenance was not renewed.

You can also do an upgrade:

D0ZDQLL IBM Informix Advanced Enterprise Edition Processor Value Unit (PVU) from Informix Advanced Workgroup Edition CPU Trade Up License + SW Subscription & Support 12 Months

You should check with your sales rep at IBM and may be ask for an exception if need be since it is not normal to have to purchase new licences.
