Docker Hub seems to only have the stand-alone IDS versions. Where can I find the actual VA's for Informix, I just bought VMWare Fusion which is supposed to run it, as explained here. (see link, also is iterated here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSGU8G_12.1.0/com.ibm.virtapp.doc/topicA.htm )

As Alexandre explained - there is no Informix VA any more.

You can install (almost) any mainstream linux distro, download Informix (developer, trial or innovator for free; or whatever edition you are licenced for) and install it in your own VA

VA means lots of bloatware (i.e. sw preinstalled but you do not need it). If you install it you will achieve two goals (at least two): you will learn something (or renew your knowledge - repetitio mater studiorum est) and you will have VA clean as you like.

Thank you so much. I have MacOS High Sierra, I will install my VMWare Fusion, then find a suitable Linux distro (Ubuntu?) and install IDS developer.

Yes, ubunutu (or any flavour - lubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, mate, ...) will do job. As well as Suse SLES/opensuse, RHEL/CentOs, ...
Regarding Developer edition - it has some limitations, IMHO the biggest stopper is data storage limitation at 8GB.
If you want to test real enterprise od adv. enterprise, you can always do trial versions for 3 months

Well, it's been a saga, but Informix Virtual Appliance is still available on www.-01.ibm.com. It was a real pain getting Download Director/Java/JRE and finally Informix 12.10 Developer Edition SLES 11 virtual appliance demo (64 bit) VMWare Workstation (tgz) all happy and working on my MacOS, but I did. However, OAT (an older version) runs on an older Firefox which looks for Shockwave (which has been deprecated) and Firefox is not easily upgraded for some reason. IBM Data Studio does work beautifully, however, which is a component that isn't so reliant on such older application plug-ins. During the download, I believe Download Director didnt work as well as downloading the tar balls directly, then finding them through VMWare Fusion, then opening the appliance, and away I went. Truth to say, it probably would've been easier just to install an easy Ubuntu version then Informix DE, but I feel this was a good exercise, nonetheless. I'd love to be able to get OAT upgraded and working, but somehow it's difficult. In the meantime, I'm working through all the demo's and scripts and feel that excitement of working with Informix again!

    Kevin:

OAT has been deprecated, so no upgrades in large part because of the shockware issues. It has been replaced by Informix HQ. You cannot download HQ separately, however, it is included with the v14.10 DE and is compatible with v 12.10.

Also note that AFAIK 12.10 is the last major release that will support MacOS.

Thanks so much. My Mac is a hand-me-down, and now I have 3 older hand-me-down Mac's (two big iMac's and one very old MacBook Pro)! I'm playing with R and Python (thru Anaconda) on the decrepit MacBook Pro, and Informix on the iMac but my next step is to actually buy (yes, for $) a nice MacBook Pro and install a real Linux and then using Informix/R to run data modeling exercises, since after reading your comment, Informix will no longer support MacOS! I was trained generously on Informix when I was in systems support at DHL Airways many moons ago and loved it so much that (wait for it!) they gave me lots more dba responsibilities as well as systems support! Thanks so much for your tips and I cannot wait to upgrade my skills and re-learn what I love!
