  • 1.  IBM IDZ data tools platform missing

    Hello,

Not sure whether I'm creating a post in the correct place but anyway. it is about IBM IDz.

I have IBM ADFZ installed but for some unknown reason I don't have data tools platform installed. I don't have data source explorer view and data tools platform perspective on the client. I tried to install DTP like described here

    https://www.vogella.com/tutorials/EclipseDataToolsPlatform/article.html

but during the process of installation it gives me registry error and then ADFZ stop loading at all. Then I have reinstalled ADFZ. How can I install data tools platform in a correct way?

I tried to install search for DTP in the client in the HELP -> Install new software

    https://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/htp/zos/tools/aqua3.3/

client gives me an error that repository isn't available now.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Azat,
The best community to join and post discussion items regarding ADFz or IDz would be https://www.ibm.com/community/z/software/development-and-pipeline
With the release of IDz v16 some features were removed.  See the What's New page https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/developer-for-zos/16.0?topic=zos-whats-new-in-developer and scroll down to the 16.0.0 section and then look for the Deprecated and Removed heading.   You will see mention of items such as the Data Perspective, the Getting Started view, and the Host Connection Emulator.  The community I mentioned above also has many blogs about IDz and the other components that make up ADFz, so again I would suggest joining the community and configuring you notifications so that you can be aware when we publish new material.  There are several blogs in the community that I think you wlil be interested in, but these contain specific information regarding the new Db2 tooling in IDz 16.0.x:
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/ibmz-and-linuxone/blogs/gerald-mitchell/2022/10/14/idz1600available
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/ibmz-and-linuxone/blogs/gerald-mitchell/2023/03/16/ibm-developer-for-zos-1601-im-ewm-db2tools
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/ibmz-and-linuxone/blogs/andrew-tram/2023/06/16/youre-invited-to-a-party-there-will-be-idz-1602
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/ibmz-and-linuxone/blogs/andrew-tram/2023/10/20/no-tricks-just-treats-with-idz-1603

Also I would recommend watching these webinars we did last year which also contain information about the Db2 tooling in IDz:
    https://event.on24.com/wcc/r/3941717/52030CBCF716963532FE72E26B5F4A37

    https://event.on24.com/wcc/r/4275338/C67F04DBAB2E75FDE570793E8EE431B1

The net of it is that the old Data Source Explorer view and other DTP features are no longer part of IDz starting with version 16.0.0 and instead features for Db2 for z/OS application development have been newly redesigned.  For more information about how to use these new features see this chapter and subtopics in the IDz Documentation https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/developer-for-zos/16.0?topic=eclipse-developing-db2-zos
