  • 1.  IBM HTTP Server License question

    Posted 10/10/12 11:35 AM
    Hi,

If I want to use IBM HTTP Server standard (not for WebSphere),  do I need to buy license/support ?  From IBM website's IHS download site,  it said that IBM HTTP Server is a no-charge web server, but then, it also said:

    • Supported by IBM when used with licensed and supported IBM products that bundles it.

    • Service is provided in the form of fix packs and interim fixes using the same update tool and delivery schedule as WebSphere Application Server.

So,  if I am using it for non-WebSphere purpose,  here is my assumption:

    1)   I can use it but no support from IBM
    2)   I don't get any fixpack

Can anyone clarify my assumption ?  Also,  if my assumption is correct,  do you know if I can buy support from IBM purely for IHS only ?

    Hi Sam,

I think that for first asumption yes and second one no (you can download fixpacks from IBM an apply to your IHS).

For the last one you can't buy support from IBM purely for IHS you need a product that bundles it with support.

If you need only a web server you can use apache, IHS is based on apache and is free.  If you then need plugin you can install on it.

      Hope this helps.

    Regards,
