As a newbie to Datacap where can I find training and reference material.  We are doing a review of our current OCR product and want to get information to do an informed comparison.   Any go to links would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
I am delighted to know that there are people who want to begin with Datacap as OCR product. Therefore I will send you a link for DAtacap documentation

here first a link and then

What you must know from the first point of view for the OCR  and Datacap
    1. Datacap is a framework / layout which is running on Windows and no UNIX system but it is very open in the sense that is offering a lot of libraries including the possibility to develop new custom libraries with new functions for the customers' applications you need. This development can be do in C# very simply compare to C++ and based on Datacap API. A source code such a Plugin is offer once you need to develop a  new library or adapt the standard Datacap software or anything in ICN.
    2. For ICN (IBM content manager) Datacap offers also an API in java
    3. Datacap is offerning a webservices to allow you an interface in java or .NET as you need  for an interface like to import documents in a new batch a.s.o

    4. it is offering the possibility to have more Datacap applications for the same customer or different customers.
It is offering templates to create a new application.
For each application you can create more jobs and each job can include one ore more tasks. In one task you defined some set of Rules
This tasked based on a job definition can be configured to run in background on  one ore more windows servers  in more threads, depending on your application complexity.
5 As open software for OCR I recommend you to take a look to the OCR Datacap libraries There are most of them currently based on Abbyy OCR and there is a very good relationship between IBM Datacap and Abbby so that each problem will be very fast resolved.
There are also interfaces to other IBM Software like P8 IBM Contetn Manger and this means you may directly using standard functions commit the batch or each document to these IBM ECM.
Also there are IBM software standard interfaces that can help you for example to make a first automatically selection of the document type I used for some customer such a library and the software and the result of difening automatically the document type was of > 90%
    6. Each Datacap application you have can be included configured in IBM ICN and here for each task you defined for your applciation you may do modification or include new functions based on ICN API and Datacap java web services (API)

    7. From the architecture point of view you have a server client architecture and a database for each application.

The client could be a fat windows client which means you have to  install the Datacap client on each MS windows workstations or
a web client  which before was a Windows Datacap web client standardApplication with ASP  no more so much used and
a very recommend web client based on IBM ICN

Each interface to Datacap once you need to customized and use web is based on a Datacap web services.

    a.s.o

    good luck,

Datacap documentation is available here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/datacap

Various redbook publications on Datacap can be found here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/search/Datacap?type=redbooks

(The redbook information is quite old, but it will get you started....and then go to the online documentation -- the first link to see the newer feature information.)

    Hello Ruth,

you should definitely try out the PlanetAi OCR Engine (OCRPL) in Datacap. From our point of view this is currently the most advanced OCR Engine delivered with Datacap.

    RecognitionOCRPL

good look and have fun using Datacap
