  • 1.  IBM Cognos for Microsoft Excel throws error when used against CA 11.2.1

    Dear Cognos Fans,

    we see a javascript errmsg "Object doesn't support property or method 'addEventListener'" since running IBM Cognos for Microsoft Excel (COC_APP-AW32-ML-RTM-11.0.1.118-0) against CA 11.2.1. Against CA11.1.7 it works fine.


    Excel Version: 16.0.5254.1000 32-bit

    Found this hint - but can't get it to work:
    Windows 8.1 and IE11 - Critical Error: Object doesn't support property or method 'addEventListener' 

    Any ideas welcome.

    Did you try to use Microsoft Edge (with Internet Explorer mode) as a default browser?

    Testcase "NOK":
    * start IE
    * F12
    * Set document mode + userAgent to something less then 9
    * open CA11.2.1 + generated prompt => Error

    Testcase "OK"
    * Set document mode + userAgent to 11
    * open CA11.2.1 generated prompt => Works fine

    If I start the IE manually and open CA11.2.1 it runs fine.

    My conclusion: 
    * Something in  CA11.2.1 together with GoOffice forces the IE browser to act as v8 or less

    Will continue digging

    Suggestion:

    there are registry settings that can impact the host process' (Excel, Word, PPT, etc) web runtime, it's plausible these were 'downgraded' by another vendor or some other incidental activity.

    please check the relevant keys, in HKCU/HKLM

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

    etc

    observe any entries for the hosting office app, like 'Excel.exe' etc, the value should be 2af8 (11000) for maximum capability.

    Hi Ted,

    Thank you for your suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't change anything, there wasn't a DWORD for EXCEL.exe process inside any of the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION keys, so we added one and here are the results:
    Registry Entries being used by Excel's process.
    The DWORD value is being retrieved correctly but Excel's behavior does not change.

    Tried all the values for FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION specified in Internet Feature Controls, but no luck.
    Tried EXCEL.exe DWORD in multiple other FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION keys like in Local Machine, the results where the same.

    We solved the problem by copying PRMTcompiled.js + CDispatcher.js from 11.1.5 to 11.2.1 installation.

    Not very elegant, but works.

    The issue has been acknowledged as an error under investigation (APAR PH43705).

    Disclaimer: The workaround by copying files from 11.1.x to 11.2.x is working for us, but might not be working for you. Nor is it supported by IBM.

    Wondering, if we are the only ones using CfMO (aka GoOffice) with CA11.2?
