Change has been in the air for a while now with AI and the various announcements but having taken the opportunity for a POC with the Watsonx Assistant for Z I am now firmly of the belief that this is happening and not is the time!
The POC for WxA4Z (if that's the correct acronym) was very interesting, we have z/OS, z/TPF and z/VM in Travelport so we gave this a good workout. In the most part WxA4Z gives very good answers or it tells you it is unable to answer the question - it does not make nonsense up like most generative AIs do when I ask them the same question.
The very good answers also include a prompt for other topics to consider based on the context of the question and the ability to ask it where the information came from in case you want to read more of the source content.
IBM were able to 'weight' the various sources so it looks at z/TPF before it looks at z/OS which suited us better as a z/TPF shop. We also had IBM import some of our own documentation into the LLM so our developers could ask it questions about their application too.
Anyone with IBM Z ought to take a look at this at TechXchange! I am going to have a long hard look at IBM Watsonx Orchestrate so I can more fully understand how to make the best us of WxA4Z.
