    The etry is working as shown in your code. Looks like either a problem with your HTTP parameters or the URL you are trying to connect to.

Nevertheless, the HTTP adapter seems to have failed to connect. Each subsequent attempt is trying to now use an already closed socket, which would seem to lead to such an error message. If the customer is using a recent tip-of-tree version for 6.7, then I'd say to raise an ecase.
