    Fonts and styles cannot be changed at the character level in SPSS, so superscripts and subscripts cannot be used in variable labels or names.

    The Unicode character set has a section of subscript and superscript characters starting at code 2070.  Entering these is not easy, although Word has a way to do this.  I suggest installing 
    Babelmap and using the clipboard to copy expressions with extended characters

    However, you may find that some fonts do not have glyphs for all these characters, which will then appear as empty rectangles, so you may need to switch fonts to get them to display properly.
