  • 1.  How to Sorting month on Cognos Analytics Dashboards?

    Hi,

    I have to do sorting on month on Cognos Analytics dashboards on X-axis. But I am not able to achieve it. Can any one suggests me how to achieve it...

    1. Select the query item in the metadata tree.
    2. Choose properties from the context menu.
    3. Change the sort options property value to be enabled.
    4. Click on the sort by list and choose a query item which would serve as your sort index.  
    If you don't have a column which already exists which you can use to sort by, you can create a calculation with an expression similar to this to create the sort index. (I don't remember the syntax of case off the top of my head but you can look it up)

    case {Your month query item}
    when 'January' then 1
    etc.
    ...

    You can do this in the module, which will allow you to have this used in any dashboard or report which uses the module or in the dashboard itself, in which case the sorting would only exist in that particular dashboard.  The former would be preferable.

    A user can define a sort order of a field that is based on another field. A good example of that would be to sort the months based on a numeric field as opposed to the caption.  Here an example where I defined the sort of the Month field based on Month number. The months show up in the expected order.

    in the video, used data type is integer or text. Maybe for timestamp not working yet.

    The Sorting in Data tray as mentioned in the discussion will not work if the query item comes from framework package. Check out the below solution. I created numeric "month"  query item. Then I added it to color slot along with Year and unchecked 'Display Legend' property , to prevent it from showing up on visualization. You can SORT the 'month' now from color slot section.When you move the 'Year' to FILTER section, you can see what the data is sliced on even if you did not display the legend. Also when user moves cursor over the visualization, the details about data will be displayed.

    I have done RND and I have got that
    what IBM said is for Data Module which is built directly within Cognos Connection portal, but the sorting option for FM packages will not show up within the source tree.

    Once i will try as  per your discussion.
