    x samba-client-2.2.7 ALL x

    (2) Hunt around fruitlessly for the /opt/samba or /etc/samba directory and instead find some stuff under /opt/freeware.

What do I do next ?

Surely by now IBM have followed the other (non-linux) Unix vendors and provided full binary installs for Samba ? I seem to recall having to do make configures etc with Samba in the past but that was in the last century !!!
