If you have the need to download, and install webMethods Software products to an on-premise environment, keep reading....
Notes:
- You may have seen this information posted in LinkedIn but I want to share it here too.
- This is not to replace using IWHI SaaS for integration solutions.
- Typically with new solutions, you should consider cloud-first solutions using IWHI SaaS.
- As I mention below, many customers have been using webMethods on-premise for years, and will continue to use it since they have a lot invested in the solutions.
- As you (should) know, IWHI has hybrid integration capabilities, therefore, for some solutions there may be a need to integrate with webMethods on-premise products. Those on-premise products need to be installed, configured, updated, managed, monitored, etc... in the customers environment.
- Or, you may end up on a project with a customer who already has a webMethods on-premise infrastructure in place This is another example of where it is good to know about downloading and installing webMethods to on-premise environments (AND upgrading them too !)
History lesson:
webMethods has been around since the mid-1990s - long before cloud integration was mainstream.
For decades, customers deployed webMethods on-premise to connect critical business systems, B2B/EDI networks, and internal applications.
This is what IBM now refers to as "Software" (customer-managed infrastructure). Many people refer to this as On-Premise infrastructures.
Around 2014, Software AG introduced webMethods iPaaS, bringing cloud-based integration into the portfolio.
Fast forward to June 2025, IBM has taken these capabilities forward into IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration (IWHI) - while continuing to support customers who still rely on webMethods products running on-premise.
So, IWHI is not just cloud (SaaS) products. The Software (On-Premise) products are still there, and very important to MANY customers.
Reality for many organizations
And that's the reality for many organizations today:
π· Years of investment in on-premise webMethods integrations
π· New workloads and applications moving to the cloud
π· A Hybrid Integration strategy needed to bridge both worlds smoothly
Good news
On-premise webMethods solutions don't need to be rewritten.
IWHI can connect directly to your existing webMethods environments.
π― Which brings me back to the title of this post
