I have read the documents on this topic but I need a clarification on the tactical side. To create a log in message for prod users, I get we create the message in the Service costing project. Do I create it in Dev, Stg, Prod?

When you say your environments are decoupled, what do you mean?  Wondering if it's like ours...  We have an A/B type switch situation on our end in case prod fails, we can do a hot swap to another prod..  So PRD1 and PRD2..

We need to carefully select the project where we're taking action. e.g. not only ensure we're loading data in Stg but using the data project, when we make changes to reports not only do it in Dev, but select the config project.

Not following these rules creates serious problems beyond not achieving the intended result, with potential data/work lost, or even bringing down an environment. That is why I'm asking the question

Ahhh, I get it now.  That's how it was in our legacy environment.  We haven't moved our new ATUM instance over to our 'live' URLs yet, so it may change back to that.  Still whenever we request project copies for ATUM we have to be specific in noting data or config project.  But back to the question, apologies for the derail!  Hoping someone can let us know which project to put the message in to hit prod - guessing dev/config - but just guessing.  Awaiting final verdict.

What it essentially is saying is that you can add a login message to any environment as well as any project. I.E if you want your users in prod to see a welcome message you would create the login message there in the user project. If you want users to log in and see one in stage in the data project that is where you would create the message.

After attempting to create the login message in Prod Service Costing, the change is recorded in the Data project, and it is not resulting in a log in message being created. Prod performance was impacted so I undid it.

In Dev I was able to create a log in message and it works as intended. It wrote to the config project.

Based on that I think I need to create the log in message in Stg data project and copy it to Prod. The same process I follow when loading data.

Mystery resolved. It might be more complex in our environments due to our peculiar set up but this is how I resolved it.

The log in message is written to the Data Project. This applies to all the other set ups controlled by the "edit projects settings", as well as the "project time settings". And the data project is mastered in the Stg environment. As a result changes to any of these set ups needs to be done in the Stg environment, in the Data project, and copied to the Dev and Prod environments.

Making these changes in either the Dev or the Prod environments does not achieve the desired results and creates lots of problems with unforeseen consequences in terms of performance and configurations.
