  • 1.  How to copy/paste between reports in Chrome

    Hello - we're currently on Cognos 11.0.11 and will soon be forced from legacy Internet Explorer to the Chrome & Edge web browsers. However in my testing I've discovered that I'm unable to copy/paste between 2 different reports when using Cognos in either Chrome or Edge. I imagine this is some sort of security behavior of the browser, but is there a way around this? It will be highly inconvenient if we're no longer able to copy/paste items between our reports.

    Hi, Brad,

    I'm running 11.1.7 (FP1 and FP3 in different environments), and I haven't had an issue copying data elements between reports. Is it specific elements, or is it anything? I do remember that earlier versions (not sure how much earlier) had issues copying a data element if the underlying query, variable, etc., was not present in the report being copied to, but I've successfully copied a prompt from one report to another in 11.1.7 and it even copies the query associated with the prompt.

    Let me know more specifics and I'll see what I can tell you!

    Hi Jonathan - thanks for the response. It does appear to be any data element. I've tried copying a query from one report to another and also a table element with text from one report to another. I'm able to copy the elements just fine but when I go to the other report I have no paste option. Hopefully there's some way around this that I'm just missing. I never realized how much I appreciated being able to copy/paste things between reports to speed up development :)

    Take a look at the CogBox extension pack I wrote. One of the first extensions I wrote was a "clipboard editor".

    After you install it you'll see a CogBox menu on the upper right. Copy an object and then open the clipboard editor. You'll see the normal report xml, simply copy that. Then in the other report open the clipboard editor and paste it in there.

    Then you can paste normally into the report. It works well across environments and tabs.
