  • 1.  How Do You Use EOS?

    With RACF, how have people addressed Erase-On-Scratch? Do you ignore it? Activate it selectively (by dataset)? Have you tested the performance effects/improvements? Does anyone turn it on for all disk datasets? By SECLEVEL? I'd be curious to see what others are doing. Thanks, Stu

    I don't see customers using EOS.  The times I have seen it, it is mostly on a dataset by dataset basis.  Since most customers have DASD encryption on, it is at least encrypted.  When it is used, and I have seen it on large datasets, there really wasn't a performance impact.

    Some customers applied EOS on dataset basis because, I think, it's more controlled and selective. In this case there isn't impact on the system. I remember only some problems with vsam datasets migrated at level 2 by DFHSM. It could be necessary a more in deep analysis on that.
