  • 1.  HMC: How to release lpar resources completely when lpar is "Not Activated"?

They are each retaining 1CPU and 1 GB RAM each which I would like to assign to my 2 other "Running" lpars.
Does anyone know how to do this?

If you want the server properties to accurately reflect what is really available, delete the two inactive lpars.

When I try to assign a processor dynamically using the Add/Remove option it tells me the available system processors is 0. See the screenshot attached. Even if I try to change the number of processors assigned to 4 it just returns with "The dynamic logical partitioning operation failed - LPAR00. DLPAR ADD Processing resources failed."
Dynamic operations are not possible on an inactive lpar so it seems even though the lpars are not active they are still retaining some resources.

I don't want to delete the 2 inactive lpars as they are inactive only for a short period of time while we temporarily assign all the resources to the active lpars.

I am still not able to allocate the resources and when I try to assign an additional processor using the same option as in the img1.jpg I get the error message: DLPAR ADD Processing resources failed :{0} as shown in (img2.jpg)

I resolved this using HMC command chhwres.

I found the solution here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/cgaix/entry/using_chhwres_to_free_up_partition_resources?lang=es

    Hope that helps!!
