  • 1.  HMC cli command for internal temperature.

    Posted Fri April 04, 2025 12:52 PM

Hello Team; do you know if there is a CLI command to get the HMC internal temperature on an 7063 HMC?

I know that you can get that info from the ipmi interface but I was not able to find a CLI command or an API Rest to obtain that value.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

    Pablo.

    Hello,

We do not have any such HMC CLI or the REST API to retrieve this info. Could you please let me know how you will use the temperature info of the HMC? Also, you might want to open a idea/rfe for this new requirement. Thanks!

Hello Manju, thank you for your response.  I work for an IBM Bussiness Partner and we have a customer who wants to monitor their HMCs temperature just to have every server under control on their data center.

    Regards.

    Thank you.

    Pablo.

We use vHMC on x86 so I'm not so concerned about the internal temperature of our VM server.  At least that's not my job.  For redundancy we have a different vHMC on a different VM server in a different state which can also support those Power servers.

For temperature of the data center we used to rely upon the DC themselves to do a good job, after all that's one of the reasons you externalize that.  However after having to take them to the woodshed for one incident (which they did major changes to resolve) we did install some IP based environment monitors to give us the data center temperature.

I don't think there is a HMC CLI command.

I assume they have CR1 or CR2 hardware. The temperature can be retrieved from the eBMC, there is some specific scripting language to automate such tasks.
