Have you tried exporting the DISPLAY variable on the partition back to the IP_address of the HMC console? I haven't tried to do what you're trying to do, but I assume a true graphical interface is what you're after, not just an text window into a logical partition. (If that were all you needed, you'd just open a virtual terminal from the HMC menu. If it was the service processor's graphical interface you wanted, you could get there through the Service Applications->Service Focal Point->Service Utilities->Launch ASM Menu.)

Nope. The only way to do it is more trouble than it's worth. You'd have to run xhost+ on the HMC, and you can't do that without getting past the restricted shell. If you need a graphical window, you're stuck with your laptop.

Its the xhost + problem, no authority. This is pretty crazy really when its meant to be a console and its running X anyway.

It would be nice if we could maintain the authorization list in the HMC Gui. IBM note my wish list ;)
