  • 1.  HDR between On Premise y AWS?

    Posted Tue May 16, 2023 03:29 PM

We are in a process of digital transformation in the company and we plan to migrate our entire infrastructure to the cloud. We currently have Informix running on AIX in our data center and we need to move it to AWS. But we need a rollback plan. As far as I understand HDR does not work between different OS versions, so we should create a replica of our on-premise DB with Linux, synchronize this replica with our AIX On Premise DB, and then do HDR between Linux On Premise and Linux AWS through from VPN. Does this seem like a good idea? Can you think of any other alternative? Thanks!

    Roman:

As Paul indicated, you can use ER (Enterprise Replication) set up bidirectionally to set up and maintain the AWS server in sync with our on-prem server across the different platforms. Then once you move users to AWS, which you can do a little at a time, ER will keep the on-prem copy in sync for a few months until you no longer have a need to fail back to on-prem.

    Hi Roman,

Another possible fit here...depending on how wed you are to AWS and the drivers behind moving to Linux. You could spin up an AIX cloud environment akin to your existing on-prem environment allowing for HDR (in theory) and would de-risk the project somewhat, avoiding a platform migration. We work with a UK partner that provides AIX offerings in the cloud. Let me know if this is something you're interested in and I can connect you.
