  • 1.  Guardium installation on NAS

    Posted 01/08/19 09:25 AM

    Hi,

According to this page, IBM does not support installing Guardium on network attached storage (NAS).

Is this statement still relevant, and what is the reasoning behing this decision?

A typical NAS configuration will not yield the same performance as a SAN, however a properly designed LAN with high speed links could overcome the performance and latency issues. Noteworthy, some companies have chosen to use NAS for some log analysis tool deployments such as Splunk.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Sylvain,

IBM Guardium Data Protection for Files now supports NAS as well as SharePoint. Please review the information at the IBM page below.

    All the best,

Hello Charlie, and thank you for your answer.
I should have been more specific. My question is about installing Guardium virtual appliances (Central Manager, Aggregator, Collector) on NAS. IBM states on this page that this is not supported. I want to know why.
The feature you referenced is interesting as Guardium is now able to discover/classify/protect data that exists in files on NAS and Sharepoint infrastructures, however this is different than what I'm looking for.
    Thanks.
    Sylvain

    Hello Sylvain,

That would be a question for the Guardium Offering Management team or your local Guardium SE. As an example, we must access NAS files using the FPolicy interface for ONTAP API for NetApp and CEE for EMC. It's possible that Guardium virtual appliances have the same restrictions that do not allow installation directly on NAS devices. Best to check in directly with IBM Guardium.

    All the best,

    Charlie
