    Setting up a new environment with Guardium 11 and the setup vmware_tools install command is failing.
    VMware recommends to install open-vm-tools for RHEL7 and the default in vmware-install.pl is [no] to continue.

    Anyone have success with installing vmware tools on the new images? Or know a work around?

    A ticket has been opened on this (TS002435286).   'open-vm-tools' should have been included in the list of installed packages for RHEL 7 used in Guardium v11.

    we are currently trying to update from 10.6 to 11.0 -   stuck in dracut problem, ticket open.

     

    Will this vmware tools problem hit us also when upgrading ? – we are on VmWare 6.0

    @Karl Riegler - this problem affects upgraded instances as well. ​​
    @Jody Hair - We're delivering an ad-hoc patch for v11.0 to resolve this issue.

    Hi Joshua,

    Do you know if the patch was created? I have the same problem installing a new platform in vmware, and the customer requires that vmware tools must be installed.

    Joshua, the patch is SqlGuard-11.0p6. (Small 50KB patch) I do not see it on Fixcentral but I did receive from Support.

    our idea is to upgrade from latest 10.6 to 11.x
    Now the dracut should be fixed and we plan to try again:

    however this vmware stuff:
    If there is no Driver for 10Gbit without the Tools, we have no Network connectivity to install the patch for vmware.
    If we would Switch to stupid e1000 Support in vmware we get different mac-addresses - which is also not preferred/working.

    Will with 11.1 which should be released in December everything fixed conerning dracut and vmware-Tools ?

    Hello Seniors,

    I have Installed Guardium V11.3 GPU 380 on VM Ware ESXi 7.0 U2 and later (VM version 19). My Question is do we really need to install  set up vmware tools ...?
    What it will does to the Guardium Appliance ? Any side effect ...? I am trying to push this VM Ware Tools from vSphere Client but it is getting failed.
    So, do we need to first execute command on guardium CLI setup vmware_tools install. Please guide me on this. thanks much!

    Hi Akash:

    In my experience we don't need install vmware tools. I have customer with and without tools and both works fine. The only need for this tools is when the vmware administrators needs install it, because they like all machines standard installed. Normally when you start the aggregator orcollector you need install using the console vmware, becuase is necessary install the IP for network card, but the rest of admnin we use a remote tool like putty for administrate the machine. So the vmware tools aren't necessary.
