  • 1.  Groups and App bundles - Best practices

    Posted 01/07/21 12:04 PM
    Hey, Happy New Year!

As per the title really, I have up until recently added apps into the catalog and have them pushed out - standard.

I have now a diverse client who wishes to have particular apps pushed to certain devices and other apps pushed to other devices, staff and management e.g.

It seems to me (and I admit I could be doing something wrong) that I can only create a group for these devices once all the devices have been enrolled. Is this correct?

I know that I can push apps to groups but this leads on to my App bundle query.

If I create a separate bundles for both Android and iOS and push these out to the device groups, how would it manifest on the device - Would it install a folder with the apps inside?

Happy to trial and error but it's quite a large client and I'm pushed for time so was seeking some pointers/advice.

    Thanks in advance.

I have similar requirements with a number of customers.  Here is the workflow I followed:

    1. Create the user
    2. Create a user group specific to the app distributions as needed
    3. Assign the appropriate users to this group
    4. Set the distribution for each required app for this group of users.

I prefer this over app bundles and it is easy to add additional apps or remove apps from distributions as needed.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Mitch

I think I follow, I've been trying to do device groups, maybe why it's not working out.

I'll have a play, appreciate your response.

The distributions should work on both user and device groups, albeit a little faster on user groups as device groups get evaluated at a slower pace.

The bundles themselves don't impact the installation experience, but they will be viewable in the app catalog as a bundle, so users can easily trigger install if "instant install" is not being leveraged.
