    So it is not a regular feature or term of AIX.

    I think you should take this up with AIX support and they might be able to track down the manual writer and ask them what they are refering too.

    At a pure gueeswork level it may be a kernel internal programming term or a term used by a specific device driver and its interface but that is a pure guess,
