  • 1.  Getting Unknown File System Error

    Posted Tue May 09, 2023 08:38 AM

Hello Seniors, Hope all is well.

I need your support to analyze file system related issue on Guardium VM appliances built on Nutanix VM systems.
I was getting below error on our Guardium VM appliances, So, Post escalating to VM Infra team they were doing something from their side and it would resolve the issue.

Have anyone faced such issue in their environment ...? If so, please assist me on this.
Pls note that, I have raised case with IBM Support as well on this. But, wanted to gather more info on this, So, I can go back to VM Team with evidence.

Below Logs I have captured through Putty logging. since, i was not able to get into the CLI session post entering the credentials, putty windows was getting closed automatically.

    Hi Akash,
If you can't login to the cli at all, then there isn't really much you can do without your VM team.
IBM would want some must_gathers but you can't do that if you cannot login.
If the VM team can get console access, then they could run the commands if they can login.
But this looks very much like a VM or storage issue.
    Good luck!
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for the response. Indeed, it is a VM Storage issue. Thanks!

    Hi Akash,

I had a very similar issue with exactly the same messages in the console.  In addition, during system boot up, the message "started crash recovery kernel arming" appeared and the continuation of boot up was possible by pressing Ctrl+D.

The problem here is filesystem errors, which can be solved by using fsck from the VM console in recovery mode booting from the installation ISO (rescue environment) or other Linux installation . The operating system will mount the filesystem in read-only mode until the filesystem errors are fixed. I highly recommend that support take care of this issue. Please refer to TS011283031 and TS011027751 tickets - this should help with diagnosis and solution.
Remember that you need VM console access and the ability to boot from the installation ISO.

Hi Karol, Hope all is well at your side.

Thank you for your valuable response. However, the question remains same, who is culprit for this issue ? Is VM Infra Team who managing this. Since, there is no strong evidence provided by support on this, which can help us to take it ahead with VM Infra Team.

Also, informing you that, support help me to fix this corruption but not by using ISO (rescue environment) but, only with fsck command.

Please refer to TS011283031 and TS011027751 tickets  >>>> No access of these cases , Any other ways for me to view case history.
