Getting Connection Reset when trying to connect Agent to Apptio Manager

  • 1.  Getting Connection Reset when trying to connect Agent to Apptio Manager

    Posted Wed October 16, 2019 12:36 PM

Just installed the datalink agent on a RedHat 7 VM at my site and when I try to run the registration it fails.  It gets Connection reset when trying to connect to the Apptio Manager URL on port 443.  I have verified I can reach the manager on 443 with telnet, but the agent gets the connecton reset error whenever it tries to connect.

I am also seeing a connection refused in the agent log trying to connect to 127.0.0.1:8402 .  I am guessing this is because it has not been able to register and download engine code?

Can anyone help with suggestions to fix either one of these errors?

Hi tim.larson@ucf.edu">Tim Larson - did you get a solution to your problem?

I run datalink on RHEL too without any issues. Is the agent running?

perhaps you should restart the agent and then look at the log files:

    • datalink-agent.log
    • datalink-engine.log

It should give you a clue as to why you are unable to connect.

Also - this is uncommon - but sometimes the default firewall may block all ports. Try running the following command to see what ports are enabled:

    sudo iptables -L

    All the best!

Thanks for the response.  I have stopped and restarted the agent multiple times.  The datalink-agent.log shows the tcp connections getting a connection reset.  I have checked iptables and verified I can get out on port 443 and was able to connect on port 443 with telnet.

I do have a call into support and expect to review this with them soon.

    Hello tim.larson@ucf.edu">Tim Larson,

The other thing to check if you have right version of java configured on the VM. simply trying java -version should give you the version.

echo $JAVA_HOME will give you the java location.

I had a problem with the agent not even starting and it was because my VM had jre1.8.0_45. The issue goit fixed when I got jre1.8.0_144 and I updated the JAVA_HOME variable to point to the new location.

Of course I may have an older Datalink Manager, Agent and Engine. You may want to check with support on which version is compatible with your datalink version.

Hope you get a resolution soon! and don't forget to post it here!

    Regards,

    Sanjay

I am using a brand new VM and I installed the latest version of java - jre1.8.0_231 .  Could still be something incompatible with the java, but I have a support call this morning and will see what they say.
