  • 1.  Get median in Complex Samples analyses

    Posted Wed September 24, 2025 06:23 AM

    Hello,

I googled if it was possible to get a median within the complex samples analyses and found a link to an article from 2020 on the IBM support pages: SPSS/PASW Statistics does not offer an estimate for the median in the Complex Samples Option (document # 421683; Modified date: 16 April 2020) but I do not seem to have access to the article (not within my authorised support). This seems a bit strange to me. Why restrict info on how to do analysis?

Does anyone know if you can get a median within complex samples, or could someone share the article (or explain why it is restricted)?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Sebastiaan

The abstract at that link says this.  While anybody can create a free account, when I log in I still get an unauthorized error message.  I suspect that there is actually no article there and the error message is wrong.

This link suggests a way to get the median in a complex sample

Another way to do this would be to use Custom Tables (CTABLES), choose the median as the statistic, and, crucially, specify to use the effective base (on the Options tab in the dialog box) for weighting.

SPSS/PASW Statistics does not offer an estimate for the median in the Complex Samples Option

    Troubleshooting

    Problem

Is there any way to get a median in the Descriptives command for Complex Samples?
