We recently had an AIX Customer trying to install gcc for IBM
App Connect Enterprise on AIX 72 . He had many dependency errors.
I used these steps to to install gcc 6.3.0 on 7200-04-02-2016
A) SUPPORT INFO:
1) These packages are available on the AIX Toolbox for Linux Applications download site:

2) Open Source RPM packages from the AIX Toolbox for Linux Applications are not supported through IBM support; however, if you need assistance installing or configuring a Toolbox package, an "AIX Open Source Software Forum" is available on the IBM Community

3) I suggest "yum" to handle the dependencies. The script for installing yum is available on the Toolbox download site.

B) Steps I used on 7200-04-02-2016 to install gcc 6.3.0.
1) I wanted to start from scratch. There is is an unsupported script that will wipe out all RPM packages and leave you with a clean slate:

I removed all packages with the destroyRPMS script.
2) I re-ran the AIX-rpm virtual package tool (this creates a dummy package to store AIX installp provided libraries/modules etc with the RPM runtime)
/usr/sbin/updtvpkg
3) I installed all of the packages with --nodeps so I would not have to keep trying a different package to satisfy dependencies.
You can install from internet if you have access, or from local directory. I have provided both:

4) Next, I verified the packages (important since we installed with --nodeps to speed up the process)

(There were no errors)
I explained that the AIX Open Source forum team is really helpful and I encouraged them to join the forum. Compiler installation is a common topic. I also want stressed that this only covers the specific gcc 6.3.0. package. Some products may require different versions, and those versions may pull in updates which impact the gcc version. These limitations can be raised on the forum for clarification.
