Sometimes we get an FTP server that hangs - it accepts the incoming TCP connection but never prompts for a user / name password. The connection never times out and Mercator just hangs. Even worse is that as all new connections in Mercator are single threaded, no connections to other servers are made either - the entire event server is hung due to one dodgy FTP server.

Does anyone know of a way round this (having more Event Servers would limit but not eliminate the problem), are Ascential working on a solution to this problem?

Any advice at all would be appreciated.
    Cheers,

thanks for the reply, we connect to around 60 FTP servers, many of them belonging to customers so implementing monitoring software on all of these servers is not feasible.

Creating an event server for each FTP server is also not possible due to the numbers of servers. Creating one event server for all FTP connections would give us the same problem as we have currently - all FTP would stop.

I have reported it to Ascential and its been escalated up so hopefully some time out setting will be implemented in the FTP adapter.
