I'm looking to move to use WORM storage and currently use File Storage (FS). Docs on Fixed Content Devices (FCD) are a little light on detail and images to visualise how this works would really help.

I understand the process: -

1- Gather creds and confirm URL for new FCD

2- create FCD in ACCE

3- create new object store storage area selecting FCD

4- set staging area directory (non wormed location)

My question is what is the structure going to be on the FCD per object store and how is that setup controlled?

Does content just get dumped into one large container or is it configurable?

We currently store content per object store (OS) per year so we have file structure per year which corresponds to the OS name. This means we have content per year which we can dispose of easily.

Anything that will help me understand further would be most appreciated.

Most fixed content devices offer a "bucket-like" structure and can usually have multiple of these. For each bucket you want to write to, you create a separate Fixed Content Device definition and an associated storage area and policy that tells CPE which documents should be stored in which bucket. However the structure of the bucket is something determined by the storage vendor. FileNet has no say in that structure, we effectively, just throw content over the wall.

You can add retention policies that dictate when content is eligible for deletion, and then use a sweep in ACCE to delete all documents that have surpassed their retention date....or don't even use retention, and just set up sweeps to delete documents that are at least 1 year old.
