    /dev/u09 134217728 974416 100% 29 1% /u09
As I understand this, I have 974MB Free to extend it into. To do this, I use:-
    chfs -a size=+900000 /u09

This will leave appx. 74415kb's free. Please confirm if I have this right, and if I want to add more disk to this filesystem, how do I check if it is available and how do I go about adding it.

    Many thanks inadvance

To see if you have free disk for /u09, you need to see if the volume group has free space.

lslv u09 # where u09=/dev/u09. look for Volume Group
lsvg <volume group> # look for "Free PP's" and PP Size to determine

If you have enough free space, use the chfs to add more disk. You can use M or G to add MB or GB...For example, "chfs -a size=+700M /u09" would add 700 MB.

If you have an unused disk, you add it to the volume group with the extendvg command:

    extendvg vgname hdiskx

So my PP's are 64mb, and I have 1575 free PP's on this particular logical volume, which means I have 100800mb free, which equates to 1.08gb? or.... 100gb? (Don't think the latter is correct). So I can extend any filesystem up to this amount that is a member of this volume group. In this case, u09. If the PP's are 64mb, this is obviously set when the LV is created, or the PP's created. What options / sizes are available for the sizes of the PP's? Can they be 128mb for example? And what are the recommendations when creating the PP's? Things to consider etc... Thanks everyone for your help on everything, as I am on a steep learning curve here, and I am sure many of you have been there in the past.

    Many thanks
