  • 1.  Faulty LTO 7 Driver - error code 6

    Posted Mon March 10, 2025 09:37 AM

We have a faulty LTO 7 Ultrium - H drive, with error code 6.

The drive can't read nor write data cartridge. It displays a 6 error code. It even corrupts data when reading cartridges.

We tried to use a cleaning cartridge and we tried to clean the drive of dust with no success. We did the drive diagnosis and it fails.

I recorded a video of the problem (see attachment).

We are asking for advice of every way we could troubleshoot the problem or where we could send it to be fixed by a specialized technical service, before to consider buying a new one. This is one is only 8 years old and we expected it to have a longer lifetime.

    Thank you.

Follow the procedures found for SCD 6 at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/t-tt-and-t?topic=information-drive-error-codes-messages

Just adding more information. I just installed the ITDT tool (IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool) to test and diagnose tape drives, and I run the healthy check on the faulty LTO. It exits in step 3 "MOUNT MEDIUM", the result is ABORTED and the code REPLACE MEDIUM. Here I attach all the output file, in case it can serve of any help.
