    We are a startup from India and Ireland trying to address the problem of disinformation and protect businesses and governments. Just wanted to know how many of you think Disinformation attacks are new area of cybersecurity?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your thoughts. If the intelligence field is anything to go by, disinformation and misinformation are not new. They just went digital - just like crime and News media. You're concerned about whether it's a new real in cybersecurity and my take is yes and no. I would think yes in that by using the digital media, it has created a new concern to look you for; a clear danger in itself. In the same breath I believe it's simply social engineering in a large scale - crowd science. In the past leaflets have been shared, announcements made over the grape vine to the same effect. 
    Having said that I agree it deserves greater scrutiny. It should be enshrined in threat hunting and incidence response.
    In the end it's just misinformation, just like crime is just crime, even if coated as Cybercrime.
