  • 1.  Extension of CPU due to high utilization

    Posted Wed August 23, 2023 10:12 AM

    Hi Team,

In my account, recently had multiple server restart due to CPU high utilization by either ILMT or BigFix applications caused. In order to avoid this I have decided to increase CPU by count 4 to the ILMT server. Currently the server has 4 cpu assigned to it. And the server has 16 gb ram with RHEL 8. But before I do it, needed your suggestion/ opinion on extending the CPU or not. If yes how many CPU I have to extend the server.

    Regards,

    Kasinath K

    Hello Kasinath,

The required amounts of CPU is directly dependent on your environment size as you can read in the following guideline :
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/license-metric-tool?topic=installing-hardware-requirements

However, it's just an 'overall assessment'...
There are many ILMT/BigFix infrastructure ingredients which can bring high utilization of CPU.
Is this high utilization a continuous in its nature or just t
    emporary peaks ?
Does it happen during some particular event like an Import process ?

Could you at least show us an output from top command captured during this high utilization period so we can find out which underlying process is consuming most of CPU resources...

    Hi @Kasinath K,

I just wanted to follow up and see if Oktawian's answer below helped at all - also, would you be able to show us an output from top command so that we can find out the underlying process consuming most of the CPU resources? I know Oktawian would be glad to help on that front!
