  • 1.  Export and Import User Question

    Posted Tue August 16, 2016 10:58 AM

I have exported users from our Test environment. I imported the users to the production environment. Issue is the users only show up as Users for Managed File Transfer and not System Wide. How does one get the users from MFT to System-Wide?

    Hi Jack,

    where are the users stored?
    In MWS?

In this case you can deploy them using Deployer.

Eventually there is an option to deploy MFT-Users in Deployer.

    Which Version are you using?

    Regards,
    Holger

    Hello Holger,

To export MFT users, you use the WMMFT-export / import service. The users are not part of Deployer. We are on WM 9.6.

The only way we are able to get users in the System-Wide User is manually create them in the MFT User process. That will add the user to both the System-Wide and MFT user profiles.

    Hi Jack,

please open an idea on brainstorm as well as an incident in Empower eService to find out how users should be migrated under these circumstances.

The idea is for the case that this featuere has been overseen in the past and requests this feature to be addeda in a future release.

    Regards,
    Holger

SAG support came back with the fix of using Deployer for moving MWS-MFT users. So that is what we will do. The Export/Import feature would not work in this case.

The beginners will definitely benefit from the strategies you’ve discussed here. Lot of interesting points shared here, I am getting a lot of new import and export tips. You are doing great job. Best of Luck for future posts.

    There is a two step process;

    1. Deploy MWS user using deployer
    2. Run exportData service on MFT source server and importData service on MFT target server.

ActiveTransfer users are My webMethods Server users who have an ActiveTransfer
profile. The ActiveTransfer profile contains all of the settings required for users to log in
to ActiveTransfer Server to transfer files and perform other ActiveTransfer tasks.

You can create an ActiveTransfer profile for a user in two ways:

If the user is already defined as a My webMethods Server user, either by way of the
internal My webMethods Server system directory service or through an external
directory service such as LDAP, you create an ActiveTransfer profile for the user by
    associating the user with ActiveTransfer.

If the user is not already defined as a My webMethods Server user, you can
create the user in the My webMethods Server system directory and define an
ActiveTransfer profile for the user at the same time.

Associating an Existing My webMethods Server User with ActiveTransfer

If a user is already defined as a My webMethods Server user but does not have an
ActiveTransfer profile, use this procedure to associate the user with ActiveTransfer.
To associate an existing My webMethods Server user with ActiveTransfer

    1. In My webMethods: Administration > Integration > Managed File Transfer > User
      Management > Users.

    2. Select the server instance.

    3. Click the bu?on above the list of users.

    4. In the Add User dialog box, click Search for Existing Users and enter the search criteria
in the Existing User Search box.

    5. In the search results, select the check box next to the users that you want to associate
      with ActiveTransfer.

    6. Click Advanced Settings.

    7. If you want to change the user’s password, select the Change Password check box and
then either generate a random password or create a specific password for the user.

    8. Specify the ActiveTransfer Server ports through which the user can access the server
by doing one of the following:

To allow access to all of the ActiveTransfer Server ports specified for the server
on the Server Management page, select Default Ports.
To allow access to particular ActiveTransfer Server ports, select Select Servers and
    select one or more ports.
    9. Click Add Existing User to Selection.
Tip: To delete any user that you have added to the selection, click the X bu?on
    next to the user name.
    10. Click OK.
ActiveTransfer Server creates an ActiveTransfer profile for the user and lists the user
    on the Users page.

    Creating a New User
If a user is not already defined as a My webMethods Server user and does not have an
ActiveTransfer profile, use this procedure to create the user in the My webMethods
Server system directory and then define an ActiveTransfer profile for the user.
    To create a new user

    1. In My webMethods: Administration > Integration > Managed File Transfer > User
      Management > Users.

    2. Select the server instance.

    3. Click the bu?on above the list of users.

    4. In the Add User dialog box, click Create a New User.

    5. Enter the user ID, user’s first and last name, and email address in the respective
      boxes.

    6. Click Advanced Settings

    7. Assign a password to the new user by either generating a random password or
creating a specific password for the user.

    9. Click Add New User to Selection.
Note: The user information boxes must be populated to enable this button. You
can continue to add more users to this selection. To delete any user that
you have added to the selection, click the X bu?on next to the user name.

    10. Click OK.
ActiveTransfer Server creates an ActiveTransfer profile for the user and lists the user
      on the Users page.
