I am looking for examples of what others have done in IoT, what tools were used, and what were the successes and implementation issues/observations. Also, if you could go back, what would be your version 2 for implementing IoT?

Thanks for that! I have some experience with the IBM product line, and also familiarity with PTC and Wonderware. I have built some premise local solutions with Maximo, REST and SCADA. There are some standards emerging, however I think the usefulness of IoT in commercial environments is not clear yet. That is why I am interested in the solutions that have been implemented....
IOT use cases based on domain. I do have exp in FA and IT domain. example if you look existing Industry System or solution need to automated / Manage /Monitoring and control using SCADA/DCS/PLC system with sensor or reader response using old systems. now the same all we can use M2M to Live data capture to use data feedback more efficient. Offline I can share few design concepts which i used in past during my FA days of 1994 -2000
