Updated the Apptio model and/or allocations to meet a specific business need
I started working on this project in January 2022 and quickly realized that Apptio would be the best option for the client in terms of tracking IT spend as well as allowing for a more comprehensive view and analysis of spend with respect to spend size conventional Apptio. You can find an overview of my approach in the attached presentation, which shows my implementation steps for creating the reports requested by the client in relation to the Finance area.
My team and I made Apptio data upload, allocation rules and reports completely distinctive. This not only increased our productivity and data accuracy, but it also improved our users' perceptions of TBMO's work and Apptio software.
I discovered that Apptio is a more robust reporting tool than I originally imagined after attending Apptio University and talking with Apptio Consultants and Internal IT professionals.
So when customers requested the implementation of the OOTB reports of the IT Tower layer we made them happy because we allowed them to have a more complete view and analysis of IT spending allowing them to automate those controls that were previously manual.
This project has taught me a lot, I have gathered a wealth of knowledge that I will always carry with me. The main lessons I learned can be summarized in:
- I had the possibility to learn how to configure the allocation logic, write formulas and build reports.
- In order to have great result on Apptio, is important to have a good data quality and for example, data should be granular enough.
- I was able to integrate more information to the reports created during the design process as part of the implementation of the Cost Transparency Apptio module, allowing examination of the new spending dimensions as well.
- I understood how Apptio can help business to have greater visibility on IT spending in order to save money and reinvest it.
- I realized that effective communication and teamwork among all project participants are essential.
