    Hello,

Whenever I launch SPSS, two identical error messages pop-up saying "zip file is empty" (see screenshot). Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I've already deleted the app completely and re-installed it but the issue persisted.

    Thank you!

    Hi @Kaveh Torabian,

That certainly is odd.  Could you fill in some details about this problem?
    - What version of IBM SPSS Statistics is this?  (The splash screen would tell you right before the Data Editor pops up.)
    - Assuming you can dismiss those two messages by clicking "OK", Does the product then go on to function normally?  If it does, the "SPSS Statistics -> About IBM SPSS Statistics" menu item should give you this information.
    - How are you launching Statistics? Are you launching directly from the SPSS Statistics.app icon and then trying to open a file?  Or are you 'double-clicking' a file and trusting macOS to correctly guess the file association and correctly launch the correct application?
    - When you've tried re-installing, have you deleted the "~/Library/Application Support/IBM" directory?  Does doing so restore your product to normal functioning?

If you are able, please login to the Support Portal use the "Open a Case" button in the upper right-hand corner to open an issue with IBM SPSS Statistics Technical Support.  With a Support case, we can dig into this much more deeply offline.

I used to see this problem.  It is harmless, but it was hard to track down.  It was caused by a defective custom dialog box.  The file was located in the directory where custom dialog boxes are stored.  You can find that in the output of the SHOW EXT command.

Unfortunately, although the file contained defective xml information, it did not have an xml extension, and I don't remember its name.  Reinstalling Statistics might not help, because that directory isn't cleaned out by the uninstall, because it might contain files added by the user after the Statistics installation.

There was a dev task to specify the name of the file in that error message, but I don't know whether that ever happened.  If you start Statistics from a command prompt, you might get more information.

But the bottom line is that this is harmless.
