Hi @Art Jack and @Robert Lundqvist. If either of you have Excel files that were created by either SPSS Statistics or SPSS Modeler that you are unable to read back in to Statistics without first opening and saving in Excel, please feel free to reach out to me privately if you are able to share those files so we can test them in-house.
Thanks

I had a similar issue when using spss batch facility & not being able to open excel files from within spss. Simply opening & saving them was a work around also.

FYI, we have an interim fix in the works for this issue. The IF will be created for both Statistics 29 and 30.

I get the same result when I try to open files which have been exported as Excel files from our SAP BO system. But the problem is solved by simply opening the Excel files and saving them again. Using an older format has not been not necessary.

Hi @Zvikomborero Madzivire. That error indicates that the Statistics backend process cannot start the Java JVM for the backend process in order to perform an import. That is an unusual error that points to something different about your environment. Recommend filing a Support case to get to the bottom of this.
In the short run you should be able to save your Excel .xlsx file as an older format .xls format workbook and import that.
