It sounds like you installed Amos as an Administrator user (which you should) but now access it as a Standard user. The default behavior of Amos is to make the Amos install path readable but not writable to end users.
When you run Amos, it will write its temporary files to the directory where the path diagram (*.amw) was loaded. If you are trying to run one of the Example path diagram files from the Examples subdirectory, you will see this issue.
To resolve it you have (at least) 2 options:
- Copy the Examples subdirectory to someplace you have full control of
- Make the Examples directory read/write/execute for everyone
