  • 1.  Error extracting Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 ZIP file for Linux on RHEL 8.2 and RHEL 7.9 with the latest unzip packages

    Greetings everyone :-) I hope you and yours are all well and safe.

    I am encountering the following problem when attempting to extract the Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 file named ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip on RHEL 8.2 or RHEL 7.9 using unzip:

    error: invalid zip file with overlapped components (possible zip bomb)

    On RHEL 8.2, I am using unzip-6.0-43.el8.x86_64
    On RHEL 7.9, I am using unzip-6.0-21.el7.x86_64

    According to these Red Hat documents https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2020:1181 and https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2020:1787 the versions of unzip I am using on RHEL 7.9 and RHEL 8.2 SHOULD have resolved this extraction problem.

    However, this does not appear to be the case with the ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip file.

    Has anyone else encountered this extraction problem on RHEL 8.2 or RHEL 7.9? How should I proceed?

    Just for completeness, I checked the ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip file on other platforms:

    I am able to extract the ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip file on RHEL 6.10 using unzip-6.0-5.el6.x86_64
    I am able to extract the ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip file on Windows using the Windows native extraction tool and also using 7Zip
    I am able to extract the ca_srv_lnxi38664_11.1.7.zip file on AIX 7.2 using unzip-6.0-3.ppc

    Hi David,

    I am having the same issue. I was not able to unzip either CA111.7 or CA11.1.4

    We are using Linux Red Hat 7.8.  I never tried in other versions.

    Hi David,

    In Cognos 11.1, you shouldn't be unzipping that file.  There is a separate installer that you run first, and when prompted, you select the server zip file and let the installer process the zip file.
